How wide is too wide? Originally unveiled during CES 2020, Samsung has begun shipping its latest monstrosity, the Odyssey G9. This is a 49″ monitor that features an insane 32:9 aspect ratio (5120 x 1440 resolution), which you won’t find on any other display. Its futuristic, Portal-inspired design isn’t too shabby, either.

“The G9 is the world’s first Dual Quad High-Definition (DQHD; 5120×1440 resolution) 240Hz rapid refresh rate, 1ms response time, 32:9 aspect ratio gaming monitor, with a deep, immersive 1000R curve and 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness,” boasted Samsung. “The monitor features Quantum dot technology combined with a HDR1000 VA panel to produce lifelike colors in vivid detail.”...

Of course. I get the CRG9 (its direct predecessor) that arrived at my house a few days ago and now the upgrade is out. Seems the main difference is the 240Hz vs 144Hz.

$1600 isn't bad at all given the specs. I was expecting nearly twice that.

I think this will be a big hit for flight sim and racing guys. It has my attention for sure.

Yeah the price isn't cheap but I agree with xGryfter, this is a great price for what you get. This I am considering although I would need a screen above it for productivity reasons.

I agree that at first I was expecting a high price, I thought at least a $3,000 price tag. That's not a bad price at all.

Yeah ok that's pretty cool looking. But no way in hell am I dropping $1600 on a monitor. That's what a 65" 4K OLED costs....

Was just looking at this since a number of places now have pre-orders up. It's possible the CRG9 is a little brighter with more contrast. Both are rated HDR1000 but the CRG9 has typical brightness of 6o0 cd/m² and this is 450 420cd/m². The CRG9 has 3000:1 contrast ratio vs this with 2500:1. I can't wait for rtings to get one because I'm sure they'll make some comparisons. Seems like July is going to be a big month for display releases. LG's IPS UW 1440P VRR HDR600 is coming out then too.
