Anyhow beat
Crysis 3 a couple days ago.
Crysis is just a hella weird series. The original game felt like it started out kinda wanting to be a modern warfare style Milsim shooter, and IMO was a deeply frustrating experience as a sneak shooter till the Aliens turn up and the whole game goes veering off into full blown sci-fi territory while still retaining what felt like a bit of groundedness.
I missed Crysis 2 entirely and might only go back to play it if I can pick it up for less than $5.
And now Crysis 3 is like some bizzare space opera thing that feels like its written by a 13 year old, where I guess the Nanosuits are actually based on alien tech and they remake the person inside to be a human/alien hybrid or something that can telepathically communicate with the Alien hivemind? All the other nanosuit users were cut out of their suits and died (except Psycho and ofc Prophet the main character of the game) by some evil earth corporation that used energy as a form of currency to turn everyone into indentured servants...
There are some rebels and stuff and there is some drama in the rebel group and stuff...
I dunno.
At the end of the day, Crysis 3 is another sneak shooter that kinda sucked until the aliens showed up, and then it kinds sucked a little less but still was just discombobulated and weird. The levels are denser, more linear, less open, and a lot more vertical which actually works in the game's favor as a sneak shooter as there are actually places to hide when your suit runs out of juice instead of just getting stuck out in the open and turned into a pin cushion like OG Crysis. Every once in a while after whittling down enemy numbers you can activate the armor mode and just go ham on the few remaining soldiers or aliens that are left.
The game is definitely not a power fantasy, Prophet is just as squishy as the protag from the first game and there are plenty of eye roll deaths. There were more than a few levels where you kill some enemies and the game just sends in more, to the point where it just feels better to cloak and sprint to the objective marker, hide and recharge, then cloak and sprint again. The vehicle sections are also deeply frustrating at times, with vehicles arbitrarily blowing up after entering areas they apparently aren't allowed to go in cause the water is to deep or the 3 ft drop is actually a 4 ft drop and too much for an APC to handle.
Well, I experienced it. Dunno if I'd recommend it. But there it is.
Absolutely gorgeous game though, Shocking that these are Graphics from 2013, easily 4-5 years ahead of it's time.
